Everton are back in for transfer target Assane Diao.

The Como winger has been linked previously with the Blues throughout this summer.

Everton are in need of an additional forward player, especially as they are cooling their interest in a return for Jack Grealish.

A bid for Diao was sent by Everton back in June, if reports emerging at the time from Italy are to be believed.

That was said to be in the region of £38.8m, quite the steep price and a fee not often seen from the Toffees.

While that was rejected, it now looks like David Moyes' side are once more seeing if a deal is possible.

What Everton have now done in the race for Assane Diao

Everton are not giving up on their pursuit of Como winger Diao.

The Blues need attackers, and after failing to land Baris Alper Yilmaz so far, they do seemingly have other options.

According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Everton have now made an approach to enquire about the situation of Diao again.

Diao was most recently in Liverpool, with Como taking on Everton's bitter rivals at Anfield.

However, while the Serie A side took on Liverpool twice, Diao was included in the first match, which was more or less both sides' second-string line-ups.

Which in itself could be a hint to his role in Cesc Fabregas' squad.

If Diao does make the move to Hill Dickinson, he should have an easy time adjusting due to the presence of a fellow Senegal national.

Iliman Ndiaye is looking more likely to stay following his rejection of an offer from Saudi side Al Hilal.

What Cesc Fabregas once said about Diao at Como

Diao is a player that Fabregas has proven to be fond of in the past, and he will not want to lose him.

In March 2025, as relayed by SOSFanta, Fabregas issued immense praise for the 20-year-old forward.

He stated: "He's a complete player: he can play many roles up front, he has quality, he can play between the lines."

Last season, Diao only featured 17 times for Como in Serie A. However, he had two separate injuries that kept him out for quite some time.

He picked up a foot and a hamstring injury in the 2025-2026 season, but still managed to do enough to be selected for the World Cup.

However, he did play just only nine minutes at the tournament in North America.
