Everton target and Blackburn striker Sammie Szmodics has revealed his desire to play for a Premier League club.

The 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international believes he's got what it takes to represent a top-flight side.

“I’d like to think so [I could make the step up to the Premier League], but it’s about getting that opportunity and chance to do so,” said Szmodics to Sportsboom.com, as quoted by Football League World.

“But hopefully I’ve shown people who doubted me in the Championship what I can do and that I can make that step up and do it at that level.

“We’ll have to see what the future holds."

Sammie Szmodics would be a good signing for Everton

The 28-year-old has proven his ability to score goals consistently in the Championship, finishing as the top scorer in the 2023/24 season with 27 goals.

This demonstrates his potential to make an impact in the Premier League, where the Toffees have struggled to find a reliable goal-scoring threat in recent seasons.

The Toffees have faced relegation battles in recent years, and Szmodics' goal-scoring prowess could help them avoid such struggles in the future.

He could compliment Dominic Calvert-Lewin in attack or actually be signed in order to take the goal-scoring burden off him as he's struggled with form and fitness of late.

The Ireland international is eager to prove himself at the highest level, and his determination and hunger for success could be a valuable asset for any Premier League side.

Given the Toffees' financial situation, rather than going all out to sign someone from a top European club, making shrewd signings from the Championship would be a sensible thing to do.
