Everton's hopes of signing Jack Grealish may have been revived.

The Blues had enjoyed the 30-year-old's contributions before his season was ended by a foot issue in January.

They had a £50million buyout clause in his loan deal, but were expected to try and negotiate a new amount this summer.

However, new Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca was understood to want to keep him around and take a look at him ahead of the new season.

Everton may now have an unexpected chance to sign him, after a new U-turn at the Etihad Stadium.

Why Everton may now have Jack Grealish chance

Grealish's future looked like it may well be away from Everton, but they may still be able to make him part of their squad.

A report from the i Paper on 4 June claims that Maresca is now unlikely to stand in the former England star's way if he decides he wants to move.

That is a contrast to his reported stance just a few days ago, and suggests that has changed his mind.

Why Everton have to sign Grealish

The Blues simply have to sign the veteran winger, it is an absolute no-brainer for all parties involved.

The former Aston Villa man notched two goals and six assists before injury ended his campaign in a cruel twist.

His addition would bring a renewed positivity to their ranks, on and off the pitch, as he already has a relationship with the squad and the fanbase.

His age may be a concern for some, but he has already shown that he can still thrive, as he was comfortably the Toffees' best player in the first-half of the campaign.

It makes too much sense for the Friedkin Group, both from an ability and an atmosphere perspective, especially with Maresca's stance on the player coming to light, to not make it happen.

If the ex-Chelsea boss will not stand in his way, then it should make it even easier for the Hill Dickinson Stadium side to strike a deal and bring him back.

Everton fans may have been prepared for heartbreak after falling in love with a loan player, but now he may be back in their ranks shortly enough.
