Everton will not earn any money from Ben Godfrey's move to Rangers.

The Blues signed the defender in 2020 in a deal worth £20million, but he could never forge a permanent starting role.

They sold the former Norwich man to Atalanta in 2024, with the Toffees pocketing £11m.

The ownership at the time made a solid move, adding a sell-on clause that would benefit Everton if Godfrey earned a big-money switch in the future.

However, the terms of his transfer to the Ibrox side means that they will not see anything from that.

It is not the Toffees' fault, but they are set for more bad luck in the transfer window.

Why Everton will earn nothing from Ben Godfrey to Rangers

The Merseysiders will have hoped that Godfrey would have went on to greater things, and earned them a significant amount.

However, the Liverpool Echo reported on Sunday that they are not going to get an immediate windfall as he closes in on a loan move to the Gers.

It states that they will miss out on the prospect of cashing in on that sell-on clause, due to the fact that it is not a permanent deal.

There is one positive, they have already saw around £3.6million from the deal that took Anthony Gordon from Newcastle to Barcelona.

Why Godfrey could still earn a windfall for Everton in the future

There is still a chance that the Hill Dickinson Stadium side could see their finances boosted by the 28-year-old.

It has been reported by some sources that he loan deal to take him to Auchenhowie includes a buy option at the end of the upcoming season.

If that is true and the Light Blues choose to activate it next summer, then it will surely lead to some cash for the L3 outfit's coffers.

That probably depends on his performances, though, so Blues fans have a reason to root for Godfrey to succeed north of the border.

If he ends up bringing even more money for the Friedkin Group to reinvest in the near future, his move to the Toffees will look even better.

It may not worked out on the pitch, but off it may be an entirely different story, depending on future developments.
