Everton are in the hunt to sign Kieran Trippier from Newcastle United before the transfer window closes, according to David Ornstein.

Writing on The Athletic website on 22 August, Ornstein reported that the 33-year-old right-back wants to leave St James' Park after being left out of Eddie Howe's starting line-up for the win over Southampton last week.

It is understood that Trippier wants regular first-team football and Everton have held "initial conversations" about a loan deal for the former Tottenham and Atletico Madrid ace as Sean Dyche seeks additions at right-back.

Dyche definitely needs to improve his right-back options.

Seamus Coleman is of course still on the books at Goodison Park but that was also the case when Gordon Brown was the Prime Minister.

At 35, Coleman isn't someone who can be relied upon every week and Young, clearly, isn't either.

It would be a great deal for the Blues to get Trippier in on loan - arguably their best deal of the summer.

Even at 33, the 54-time England international still has a lot to offer.
