David Moyes would have been eager to strengthen in January, but Everton's transfer plans have likely now changed drastically.

The Toffees are playing the first half of the campaign with a limited squad, which includes just one senior recognised striker in Thierno Barry.

Moyes has already made clear he was not happy with the manner in which Everton's transfer window closed in early September.

Everton no longer plan to sign Folarin Balogun after the dramatic transfer collapse last month, but another striker is definitely needed.

However, it is now apparent the Friedkin Group's heart is no longer at Everton as they are open to offers to sell up.

But exactly how does that now impact the Toffees' transfer plans for early in the New Year?

The signing Everton could still make in January

A striker is a priority for Moyes, but that is not to say other positions do not also need addressing.

There is still just one recognised right-back and left-back, with Vitalii Mykolenko's injury now further stretching Moyes' squad.

In an update provided by Mark Douglas for the i Newspaper on Friday, it is reported that any Everton fan hoping for big signings in January will be disappointed.

Sources have told the outlet that the Friedkin Group are in "phase two" of their Everton ownership, which is about sustainability.

With the Americans not intending to stick around for much longer, they do not plan to start losing more money now.

However, the sale of Iliman Ndiaye and subsequent collapse of Balogun's arrival means there is some money to play with.

While a big-money signing will not be made, there is some financial headroom there for one new striker to be recruited.

What Friedkins have 'little appetite for' as Everton focus already on January window

What type of striker could Everton bring in?

Everton were willing to spend around £40million to sign Balogun at the end of the window, albeit they then started haggling over a lower price.

However, now that it has been confirmed the Friedkin Group want out of Everton, fans can expect a much smaller amount to be splashed.

That restricts the Toffees in the transfer window, as they will be looking for a striker that can add to Moyes' squad who is available for a relatively cheap sum.

In January especially, that is almost the impossible job.

Could this be the club's way of already watering down expectations of what to expect?

Fans will be livid if a tiny amount it spent on a new striker, but that is the reality we live in until a sale now goes through at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
