What Friedkins have 'little appetite for' as Everton focus already on January window

Everton already have one eye on the winter transfer window amid the backlash from their summer activity.

The Toffees came out of the window, which closed last week, having made a profit, aided by a flurry of late sales.

Missing out on a new striker, namely Folarin Balogun, cast a dark cloud over the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Friedkin Group are looking for fresh investment in Everton, with the hope that could arrive before the window reopens.

Everton could potentially strengthen their squad prior to that, with free agents Anthony Martial and Mauro Icardi linked.

A new update has now been shared on both those names, as well as Everton's wider transfer plans for January.

Everton have obvious priority for New Year

For now, David Moyes simply has to work with the options available to him.

If Thierno Barry sustains an injury over the next few months, Everton really are in trouble.

But right now, results are positive and supporters are getting fully behind their side - even if that is not the case for those higher up.

Mark Douglas, via The i Paper, reports that a new striker remains the "priority" for Everton in January.

The report adds that the Friedkins have "little appetite" to scour the free agent market for new recruits.

However, that is not to say deals for Icardi and Martial have been completely ruled out before then.

If the right option becomes available to give Moyes a boost for now, that will be considered.

What is latest on Everton links with Mauro Icardi and Anthony Martial?

Looking around for a free agent is never ideal at this time of the year.

If a player is without a club post-window, it is likely for a reason.

Martial is said to be after huge wages if he is to join Everton, which surely makes it a non-starter.

As for Icardi, the latest is that Everton have been offered the veteran striker, with a decision to be made in the next few days.

The former Argentina international has not ruled out retirement.

In truth, no new signing may be better than the two mentioned.

Moyes just needs to ensure Everton remain in a good position come the start of 2027, at which point a signing or two will hopefully already be lined up.
