Cesc Fabregas is a big fan of Everton transfer target Assane Diao.

The Toffees had a controversial summer transfer window, but may look to make amends in the winter.

Though there is uncertainty around who will be in charge of the Blues after the Friedkin Group announced their intentions to sell, they will remain in control and supportive until a buyer is found.

Como winger Diao was linked with a move to Hill Dickinson in the summer, as David Moyes lost key forward Iliman Ndiaye to Manchester City.

Brennan Johnson was brought in before Ndiaye's departure, but the jury is out on the former.

Everton could look to improve the position in January, with Diao once again of interest.

What's now being said about Everton target Assane Diao

Everton reportedly bid for Diao in the summer, with an offer that was said to have totalled over £35million.

The 21-year-old has caught the eye in Serie A since signing for Como in January of 2025.

The Senegal international has had a blistering start to the season for the Italian outfit, with four goals and assists in six games so far.

According to Africa Foot, his performances have caught the eye of Aston Villa, Everton, Brentford, Liverpool and Newcastle United, but Como do not wish to part ways with the winger easily.

They would ask for at least £42m in talks, as Manchester United are said to be in front of the competition ahead of a possible move.

The Toffees appear to have retained their interest, and could make a move once again in the winter.

They can take great confidence from what his manager Fabregas has said.

What has Cesc Fabregas said about Diao?

Diao helped Como qualify for the Champions League last season, a competition that Everton dreams of being in one day.

The right-winger has been one of Fabregas' main outlets in the final third, so it's no wonder why so many Premier League clubs are keen on him.

If Fabregas was not still in charge of Como, he'd most likely endorse any English club to make a move for the forward.

The three-time Premier League winner said last month, as quoted by Tuttosport: "Diao is going to a higher level; he had a big impact when he arrived, and his head doesn't help with injuries, though.

"Now he has found continuity; I see him calm, while last year I saw him disturbed, and if there was something that was not right, he got nervous; he was afraid.

"Now he has serenity; he has found the right path, and it is not easy after the long injury."

It's fair to say that Everton look ambitious with their interest in Diao, but can they match Como's asking price this time?
