Idrissa Gana Gueye appears to be closing on officially confirming his exit from Everton.

The veteran midfielder is out of contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with his previous deal ending at the end of June.

The Toffees had been in talks over extending Gueye's contract by a further 12 months, but progress was held up by his participation at the World Cup.

With things going a little quiet on updates regarding him extending his stay at Everton, it was becoming ever evident that he could move on.

Hayden Hackney has arrived during the transfer window, and David Moyes is reportedly keen on adding more midfield reinforcement.

That wish may now need to be sped up, as a new update has now been delivered on Gueye's future.

Idrissa Gana Gueye set to swap Everton for Saudi Pro League

Goodison News previously covered reports that Everton could be priced out of a new deal for Gueye with Saudi Pro League clubs circling.

Gueye had a clause in his contract that would have seen him earn another 12 months on his contract if he hit a certain number of Premier League appearances.

However, that tally was not reached and Everton knew they would have to renegotiate with the 36-year-old.

Now, transfer expert Ben Jacobs - who is a prominent contributor to talkSPORT and GiveMeSport - has provided a fresh update.

Jacobs wrote on X that Gueye is due to sign for Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Diriyah on an initial one-season deal.

He added that the move is now being finalised, with his official exit from Everton set to be confirmed imminently.

Who have Everton been linked to this summer?

It was looking increasingly unlikely that Everton would keep hold of Gueye this summer.

Indeed, Moyes was already reportedly wanting more midfield reinforcement on top of Hackney's arrival.

Parma's Mandela Keita and Pape Gueye of Villarreal are two names to have been linked throughout the transfer window.

Whether Everton push ahead with a move for either player remains to be seen, but what is clear is that Moyes will be keen for another addition in the centre of the park.

Moyes will specifically be looking for a more defensive-minded midfielder, especially with reports that Tim Iroegbunam could still be sold this summer.
