Manchester United are once again being linked with a move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

The 24-year-old is considered as one of the most accomplished centre-backs in the Premier League.

Capped once by England, Branthwaite is an integral part of David Moyes' plans at Everton.

Moyes views Branthwaite as a crucial starter in his best line-up, partnering the experienced James Tarkowski at centre-back.

But he has in the past been linked with a move away from Merseyside, and the Red Devils have been long-term admirers.

Now, it looks as though United could be about to reignite their interest in Branthwaite as they plan a defensive overhaul.

United's interest in Branthwaite is nothing new, they have held an interest in the star centre-back for over two years now.

Indeed, Everton rejected two offers from United for their prized asset back in 2024.

Branthwaite then penned a new five-year contract with Everton in July 2025, with his previous deal having been set to expire in 2027.

However, according to talkSPORT, Man Untied are now once again plotting a move for the Everton ace.

They state that United are planning an overhaul of their defence this summer, with the likes of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Lisandro Martinez all out of contract.

talkSPORT state, though, that Branthwaite's new contract last year means Everton are under no pressure to sell one of their biggest assets.

Branthwaite has long-since been considered one of England's most high-profile centre-backs.

Boyhood Blue and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, speaking back in 2024, dubbed Branthwaite "outstanding" and "pretty special".

We all, sadly, know that contracts in football seldon mean anything in reality, and if one of the so-called "big six" wants to sign a player, nine times out fo 10 they will.

So, if this is genuine interest, there has to be a reality that Everton might end up selling if the price is right.

But, with so much time on his contract, they do hold all the cards as it pertains to Branthwaite's future.

It means they must only consider selling if they receive a fee that is frankly too good to turn down.

There is a big consensus that they did not get that with the £65million sale of Iliman Ndiaye to Manchester City.

Hopefully lessons have been learnt there, and Everton either dig their heels in if the interest is genuine, or they make sure they get a huge sum that could actually help improve the squad.
