How David Moyes feels about Aaron Wan-Bissaka signing as Everton transfer truth revealed

Everton have been strongly linked with a move for West Ham United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer.

David Moyes is determined to sign a right-back before the summer transfer window shuts, that much is of no secret to anyone.

It's been Everton's weak spot for some time now, and after making numerous additions in midfield and attack, it surely has to be the remaining priority in this window.

A host of names have been linked to Everton, with West Ham's Wan-Bissaka being one of the more heavily-touted options for a move to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

It's also no secret that the Hammers would like to offload the 28-year-old, as they continue to reshape their squad following relegation to the Championship.

So, with Everton needing a right-back and West Ham keen to sell, Wan-Bissaka and the Toffees could be a match made in heaven...right?

Who is in pole position to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka?

With bags of Premier League experience under his belt from his time with Crystal Palace, Manchester United - where he won an FA Cup and League Cup - and West Ham, Wan-Bissaka could be a shrewd signing for Everton.

Given their current right-back conundrum, the DR Congo international would surely be arriving as an instant starter on Merseyside.

Despite Everton's pressing transfer need in this department, however, it now appears as though Moyes will take his business elsewhere.

That's because the Daily Mail reports on Wednesday that Moyes is "exploring other options" away from Wan-Bissaka.

They also claim that Aston Villa are currently leading the chase to sign him ahead of Arsenal.

So, is Moyes making a mistake by moving off from Wan-Bissaka, and what do his numbers from last season have to say about that?

Why Moyes is wise to move on from Wan-Bissaka deal

Wan-Bissaka made 25 Premier League appearances for West Ham in 2025-26, with 23 of those being starts.

That culminated in just over 2,000 minutes of league football for the experienced defender, but his underlying numbers tell a story of a disappointing individual campaign.

As per FotMob, he ranked in the bottom 11.9 percentile of all Premier League right-backs last season for his 3.58 duels won per 90 minutes.

On top of that, he also placed in the lowest 14.3 per cent for his 1.43 tackles won per game, as well as being in the bottom 21.4 per cent for his 3.24 recoveries per 90.

His 0.65 touches in the opposition box per game ranked him in the bottom 9.5 per cent, whilst his 76.7 per cent pass success rate was enough to land him in the lowest 20.2 percentile.

So, whilst his experience would be a valuable asset to Everton, his poor numbers in some vitally important areas suggest that Moyes is doing the right thing by exploring other options.
