How much Everton offered for Abde Ezzalzouli as last-gasp deadline approach emerges

Everton tried to get many late moves over the line, with Abde Ezzalzouli emerging as another of those attempts.

The Toffees were looking to strengthen in attack ahead of the 1 September deadline, especially with Beto and Iliman Ndiaye sold.

A move for Folarin Balgoun ultimately collapsed, leaving David Moyes extremely light in the forward department.

Attempts to sign Joshua Zirkzee then emerged, before Balogun looked to be back on the agenda.

However, the USA international then walked away late last night but those were not the only forwards Everton looked to sign.

What we know about Everton's late swoop for Abde Ezzalzouli

Ezzalzouli, frequently nicknamed Ez Abde, is not a striker but the the Moroccan would have helped replace Ndiaye in the squad.

Primarily playing on the left-wing, Ez Abde is just off the back of an impressive campaign for Real Betis, in which he scored 10 goals and got eight assists.

That has brought him plenty of transfer attention, and Everton had looked to sign him.

According to Seville-based journalist Pepe Elías, Everton had a £36.8million deal rejected on deadline day.

The structure of that offer is said to be £30m up front, with the rest in add-ons.

However, it is stated that Real Betis did not even take the offer under consideration at all.

Everton can only blame themselves as goalscoring worry emerges

The biggest worry with Everton's squad is the question of where are the goals going to come from.

Thierno Barry has shown signs of being a high-scoring forward, with him scoring eight goals last season despite an average of 51-minutes per appearance according to Sofascore.

But, whether the pressure of being Everton's only goal threat weighs on his shoulders remains to be seen.

While Jack Grealish is a quality player, he has never been known for his goalscoring, and the same can be said about Tyrique George and Brennan Johnson.

Ez Abde would have added goals out wide, and Everton have nobody but themselves to blame, as they simply acted way too late.

There was ample time to bring in new forwards, but the Toffees waited until the final day to act.

And now have no replacements for last season's top Premier League scorer for Everton (Beto) and their fourth highest scorer (Ndiaye).
