Jarrad Branthwaite exit 'no-brainer' as Man City ready to go big with Everton bid

Published on

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is a "no-brainer" signing for Manchester City, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Branthwaite is no stranger to being linked with an Everton exit, with Manchester United previously lodging multiple offers.

However, it may well be that the England international ends up across the city as the Citizens are showing an interest.

Branthwaite still has four years to run on his contract, meaning Everton have plenty of bargaining power.

But the financial might of Man City may mean an offer is simply too big for Everton to turn down.

Jarrad Branthwaite wanted at Man City despite managerial uncertainty

City are currently without a manager following long-serving Pep Guardiola's exit last month.

Former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has been widely tipped to succeed Guardiola, but a compensation fee with Chelsea has yet to have been met.

Despite that, City are seemingly pushing on with their transfer business - the window officially opened on Monday - and are eager to snap up Branthwaite.

As per talkSPORT, City are willing to offer £70million to sign the centre-back this summer.

When asked if he believes that is a good move from City, Agbonlahor said live on air on Monday: "I really like him and I think he will suit that team. It's a no-brainer."

Man City bid for Branthwaite may also be 'no-brainer' for Everton

When Branthwaite was strongly linked with Man United in the past, Everton fans rejoiced when that came to nothing.

However, this past season has seen Branthwaite's stock fall given his injury issues.

The 23-year-old played just 10 matches, starting only seven of those, having started and ended the season injured.

Branthwaite is a superb defender and can be arguably the best England have.

But that is not the case right now, and £70m is an awful lot of money should City indeed go that high.

That money could help bring in another defender and also go towards recruiting a seriously top-class forward.

If nothing else, the Friedkin Group will have plenty to ponder if the bid is tabled.
