Kyle Walker made Everton feelings clear years ago - now David Moyes can land his man

David Moyes could finally bring Kyle Walker to Everton, some 17 years later than planned.

Walker is currently preparing for a season of Championship football with Burnley following the Clarets' relegation last time out.

The 96-cap England international, who called time on his Three Lions career earlier this year, is now aged 36.

Reports have emerged suggesting Walker is a summer transfer target for Everton in their desperate search for a new right-back.

Walker has already previously commented on why a move to Everton fell through in the past, though things may be different now.

However, Everton fans will no doubt raise an eyebrow as the links, which appear to have emerged from nowhere.

Why Kyle Walker chose Tottenham over Everton in 2009

Walker has been one of the greatest defenders - let alone right-backs - in the history of the Premier League.

He won the Premier League six times with Manchester City, while also lifting the Champions League once and 10 other trophies.

It is little wonder, then, that Man City boss Pep Guardiola previously hailed Walker as "one of the greats" in his position.

However, things could have turned out a lot different if Walker had instead opted for Everton over Tottenham in 2009, prior to his Man City move.

Everton were in for the young Sheffield United player at the time, but speaking in 2019, he revealed why he instead went to Tottenham.

“I was close to signing for Everton before I signed for Tottenham," Walker told the Manchester Evening News.

"[Sheffield united teammate Kyle Naughton] went to Moyes' house and he never invited me.”

“So, I went down to Devon, to Tottenham, and I was like 'okay, they like me more', so I signed for Tottenham.”

That was then, though, and things could be a lot different now.

Why Walker transfer could yet make sense for Everton

You have to assume Walker would jump at the chance to stay in the Premier League.

With his 37th birthday on the horizon, Walker does not have long left as a professional.

While a move for Walker would not exactly have Everton fans buzzing, it could yet make sense.

That would only apply, though, if another - much younger - right-back is also signed.

Everton continue to be linked with numerous players in that area, but nobody has signed with the new season now a week-and-a-half away.

Walker would be a good back-up option and his experience would also come in handy at Finch Farm.

Players around Walker's age can often begin doubling up playing with coaching, which Moyes could tap into.

But if Everton were to go into the new campaign with Walker at right-back - or indeed nobody new at all - fans will have every right to be concerned.
