Leon Osman reveals 'shady' new details of failed Everton transfer of Folarin Balogun

Leon Osman has received further details about Folarin Balogun's failed transfer to Everton.

The Toffees were close to signing the AS Monaco star on deadline day, but the deal eventually fell through.

Many fans in L3 have been left raging after how things unfolded on the final day of the transfer window, with David Moyes now left with just one natural striker in Thierno Barry.

It looks like The Friedkin Group did eventually want to get a deal over the line for Balogun, but some at Hill Dickinson Stadium may be relieved it didn't materialise.

Several things, starting from the 25-year-old striker's arrival to Merseyside, have raised a few eyebrows.

There was also the knee issue that got flagged, which certainly didn't help the American international's cause.

How things unfolded in Folarin Balogun and Everton saga

It has been previously claimed that Balogun opted for a later flight to the UK on deadline day rather than the earlier one the Toffees wanted him to take.

An unnamed source at Hill Dickinson Stadium seems to have confirmed that to Osman.

The striker hadn't trained since the World Cup and the Blues asked for data on the jogs he had done in the five weeks prior, but there wasn't much there.

It seems the Merseysiders were forced to look elsewhere, but eventually decided to go with Balogun, whom the club couldn't find after he went for a walk around the training pitch at 20 past 11 at night.

Osman has revealed that the ownership in L3 were ready to take a gamble on the attacker, but in the end, he decided against the move.

Speaking on Outside the Box Pod on 9 September, the former England international said: "What I did hear from an unnamed source at the game was… he did fail his medical, according to us, and we tried to negotiate different things and all of that.

"The whole thing sounded a bit shady. He was supposed to get an 8am flight and his representatives said we're getting an 11:30am flight.

"And they wanted to do further exploratory tests. They did. Turns out this issue with the knee came up.

"The medical department and the people within the club apparently weren't disappointed with that, considering what his scans were showing."

Where Friedkin Group now stand at Everton

Everton fans aren't too pleased with TFG, and rightfully so.

Even if the American owners were ultimately willing to push through a move for Balogun, it still came too late.

The Toffees' hierarchy had the entire summer to pursue their targets, but decided to leave things until deadline day.

Even the arrival of a new right-back took until the last day of the transfer window despite an evident need for one since last summer.

TFG have damaged their reputation in L3 and they certainly need to regain supporters' faith in the coming months.
