Pep Guardiola has given Everton enough reason to sign Stefan Ortega this summer.

The Toffees brought in Mark Travers last summer as he was introduced as the new number two on Merseyside.

He made just two appearances in his debut campaign, with both coming early on in the Carabao Cup.

That isn't surprising as Jordan Pickford maintained his spot in the undisputed number one choice.

It doesn't appear as if David Moyes is satisfied with these options as Ortega has emerged as a target.

The German is available on a free transfer and could see the Blues take a leaf out of Guardiola's book this summer.

Why does Pep Guardiola love Stefan Ortega?

It is certainly interesting to learn that a new shot-stopper is on the agenda at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

That is especially the case with a two-time Premier League winner emerging as a target.

He may have acted as number two at Manchester City for several years, but still made a defining impact.

In the 2023-24 campaign, he came in to replace Ederson and went on to make a title defining save against Tottenham.

The German came on after 69 minutes and made a stunning stop up against Son Heung-min to maintain City's lead.

It sparked a crazy reaction from Guardiola on the sidelines before he spoke out in glowing terms at full-time.

The Spaniard said: "He defined, I would say, how the team is a team. Ortega saved the actions otherwise Arsenal will be champions.

"I said ‘No, not again.’ But Stefan made an incredible save. He has this talent. In one-on-ones, he is one of the best 'keepers I’ve ever seen in my life.

"He’s so reliable and an incredible keeper. The club made an incredible decision to bring him here."

You won't get a better review than that from someone as well-respected as Guardiola and that will have piqued interest at Everton.

What is latest between Everton and Ortega

Goodison News covered on Thursday that Everton have approached Ortega already this summer.

That came after Florian Plettenberg reported that the German has already turned down an offer from Everton.

The Sky Sports Germany reporter also outlined that talks are ongoing between the keeper and potential new clubs.

There are several clubs now in the race for his signature as he attracts interest as a free agent, having spent a short spell at Nottingham Forest in the second half of last season.

Everton have all the proof they need to know how good Ortega could be on Merseyside if they could get a deal over the line.
