Richarlison's past Everton comments make for awkward reading as homecoming nears

Richarlison looks set to return to Everton four years after leaving to join Tottenham Hotspur.

There is an agreement in principle between the Toffees and Spurs over the separate transfers of the striker and Iliman Ndiaye.

Richarlison is set to return to the Blues in a deal worth £35million, so long as personal terms can be agreed.

Ndiaye will go in the other direction, with the Friedkin Group about to pocket £60m for the Senegal international.

Some Everton supporters have been vocal about the respective deals, as Richarlison's comments about the Toffees since leaving resurface ahead of a return to Merseyside.

What Richarlison has said about Everton since leaving

Richarlison and Ndiaye are both set for medicals ahead of their respective moves to Everton and Tottenham.

David Moyes wanted his winger to stay, but the Blues have decided to cash in after his representatives rejected multiple contract offers.

Richarlison's imminent Hill Dickinson move may ruffle the feathers of plenty of Evertonians, especially after his previous comments.

The Brazilian has openly spoke about the Blues since his exit, and has criticised the club for one thing in particular.

Speaking to FourFourTwo after leaving Everton in 2022, Richarlison said: "It’s always a tough call when you have such strong connections with your club, and that was definitely the case for me.

"However, perhaps they’re suffering with a lack of ambition nowadays. You know, that eagerness to win matches and trophies."

His comments resurfaces after Moyes recently suggested that staying in the Premier League would be more important for the Toffees than winning a trophy this season.

Richarlison also said: "I spent four years there and I could see there was still a very long way to go to achieve big things. I felt it was the right time to move on, and the club also had to make some money. It was a good deal for everyone involved."

Why Richarlison's relationship with Everton has remained

Taking Ndiaye and finances out of thoughts, many Everton fans will be delighted to see Richarlison return.

The Toffees have been keen to add a new striker to provide Thierno Barry with competition, and they are close to doing so.

Richarlison scored against Everton for Tottenham in December of 2023, and despite this he applauded the away supporters, and they did the same back after full-time.

Everton fans have respect for Richarlison, and it's well and truly reciprocated.
