Seamus Coleman has just exposed Everton's biggest recruitment flaw to Jamie Carragher

Seamus Coleman has had doubts in the back of his mind about Everton's recruitment.

The Toffees had a controversial summer transfer window, with the last-minute failure to land Monaco's Folarin Balogun summing everything up.

Despite the Blues bringing Jack Grealish back to the club on deadline day, many supporters felt deflated as a deal for Balogun fell through, and another for Ainsley Maitland-Niles barely beat the cut-off point.

This all came despite the fact that signing a new right-back and a striker were two top priorities all summer long for David Moyes.

Angus Kinnear and Co. have left Moyes with one natural number nine until January at the very least, with a lack of depth in several other positions also clear to be seen.

Now, Coleman has lifted the lid on his thoughts about Everton's recruitment and their strategy.

Coleman has been in talks with Sheffield United since leaving Everton, and even met Chris Wilder to discuss the potential of joining the Blades.

However, he has since admitted that the proposed move to Bramall Lane came too soon after leaving Hill Dickinson, but insists he wants to keep playing.

Coleman, alongside many Evertonians, may have been left disappointed at how poor the Blues' timing was with transfers this summer.

While speaking on The Overlap's 'Stick to Football', which was released in full on Thursday, the 37-year-old revealed his thoughts on the Toffees' biggest issue when it comes to signing players.

After Jamie Carragher questioned why Everton struggle to recruit as well as teams like Brighton and Brentford, Coleman said: "I do think the Everton fanbase has been dragged through it a lot. Recruitment over the years has not been spot on.

"There's a certain type of personality that you need to play for Everton; I feel like we've not always got that right."

Coming from the former club captain, that sounds pretty alarming, though he has seen plenty of players come and leave over so many years.

Coleman is right; you need to have a certain mentality and way of playing to wear an Everton shirt and be remembered, and it must come into the recruitment team's thinking.

Which players could Coleman be referring to?

There have been plenty of players that can be marked as failures at Everton over the years, but not having the passion to play for the club will always have an individual doomed from the get go in L3.

The likes of Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, maybe even Hayden Hackney, are the exact type of personalities that fit like a golden glove at Hill Dickinson.

Others seen at the club over the years, including Neal Maupay, Arnaut Danjuma, Dele Alli and others are examples of what not to look for in players.
