The latest on Pape Gueye after Everton transfer twist as new agreement given

Pape Gueye has been one of the more interesting stories of Everton's transfer window.

The Villarreal star has attracted major interest across Europe and further afield after his impressive performances for Senegal at the World Cup.

He is a team-mate of Iliman Ndiaye's and also a good friend of Idrissa Gana Gueye, who has now left the Toffees.

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Hill Dickinson, even after the arrival of Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough.

David Moyes may be keen on adding one more midfielder to his ranks, with uncertainty clouding the respective futures of Tim Iroegbunam and Carlos Alcaraz.

Everton were said to have reached an agreement for Gueye earlier in the window, but the race for the Villarreal star has changed once again.

Sources denied claims that Everton made a move to sign Gueye, though interest was not ruled out.

However, Goodison News learnt that the player is worth £34.2million, a fee that the Blues do not want to spend.

Africa Foot have revealed in an update this Saturday that Everton are still on the lookout for Gueye, who claim the box-to-box midfielder earns around £31,000 per week at Estadio de la Ceramica.

However, it's said that Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli are now keen on him, as their interest has given a "new dimension" to the transfer race.

If the Saudi side were able to bring Villarreal's value of the midfielder down in transfer talks, it could prompt Everton to come back in with an offer, should it be possible for less than £34.2m.

There have been some concerns over a lack of a hard-tackler in Everton's midfield heading into this campaign, and so Gueye could ease those worries if he were to join the Toffees.
