Hull City's reported move for Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam has seemingly hit the skids.

The Toffees were apparently willing to let the midfielder depart the Hill Dickinson Stadium for Hull in a £20million move this summer.

Iroegbunam has found it difficult to assert himself as a regular starter under both Sean Dych and David Moyes at Everton.

Indeed, he was limited to just 17 Premier League starts last season, with Moyes largely preferring other options in his engine room.

Midfield is thought to be an area that Moyes is looking to strengthen again this summer, which would further limit Iroegbunam's opportunities to start.

But it now looks as though if he does leave, then it will not be to join Premier League new boys Hull, after a new update emerged.

Why has Hull City's bid for Everton's Tim Iroegbunam faltered?

Hull ended a nine-year exile from the Premier League by beating Middlesbrough in the Championship play-off final last month.

Their return to the top flight earned them a reported £200m windfall, with the Tigers ready to splash the cash to boost their squad ready for the rigours of the Premier League.

Iroegbunam was seemingly one player identified to provide them with options who are Premier League ready.

However, BBC Humberside sports editor Mike White has shared the move looks like it is no longer happening.

He said on air: "Let me start with the Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam, valued around £20million, City were targeting him.

"I’m getting the sense there are some within the club who want him, some who don’t and obviously there’s a lot of back and forth in that.

"Whether that’s because of the fee or something else that bit’s not really clear. From what I understand, they were close to agreeing a deal but that’s not happening now."

Which midfielder are Everton targeting this summer?

It is not secret that Moyes is looking for reinforcements across the park, but midfield does look a particular priority.

James Garner is obviously a top performer, and one of Moyes' go-to men in the centre of midfield.

But with doubts over Idrissa Gana Gueye's future, coupled with the fact he will soon be 37, and Iroegbunam potentially on his way out, some additions would be welcome.

Middlesbrough ace Hayden Hackney has been regularly linked throughout the summer, and that one looks a deal to watch.

Southampton's Shea Charles is another who has been mentioned as a player of interest, though Leeds United seem to be winning the race for his signature.
