Everton have now showcased an interest in Timothy Castagne at Fulham.

The Toffees are in desperate need of a right-back as the new season edges ever closer.

Nathan Patterson remains the only recognised senior right-back in the squad at this stage.

The Scot clearly isn't favoured by David Moyes as Jake O'Brien has been preferred there out of position.

Even Merlin Rohl has featured as a full-back throughout pre-season.

The hunt for a right-back signing goes on as Castagne has now emerged as an option.

What have Everton done with Timothy Castagne?

There is frustration continuing to grow in L3 as the lack of a new defender becomes an even bigger problem.

A new face on the right side of defence has been needed for years, so it is poor that the search is carrying on at this stage.

That has seen a number of options linked with a move at this stage.

The latest is Fulham's Castagne, as per The Athletic, suggesting that Everton have put him on their shortlist.

The Blues are sounding out right-back targets and the Belgian has entered the mix at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Interest remains in Daniel Munoz after recent links with the Crystal Palace man.

There are said to be several other options on the list to resolve their "problem position".

What would Castagne bring to Everton?

The 30-year-old certainly wouldn't be as exciting a signing as Munoz, but could be effective.

He is looking ahead to his fourth season with Fulham and seventh in the Premier League.

That experience would be a plus for Everton, while he also possesses talent moving towards both boxes.

He is best known for his defensive qualities at Craven Cottage as his blocks, interceptions and strength on the ball have caught the eye.

That would suit Moyes as he has often preferred more defensive-minded full-backs in recent years.

Castagne may not be the most exciting option for supporters, but could be a steady signing to fill a gap in the Blues' squad.

Everton fans want Munoz, though, someone exciting who can get them off their seats, with Castagne possibly more of the same that simply hasn't worked for years.

Time is running out, either way.
