Everton are reportedly battling Nottingham Forest for the signature of Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr.

With the new Premier League season now just days away from kicking off, David Moyes is making an effort to bolster his midfield options, despite the well-documented need for a new right-back.

Sarr, 23, is now an option for the Toffees, who've already added to their midfield this summer by adding Hayden Hackney and Christian Norgaard to the squad.

Tottenham are now willing to sell their Senegal international for £30million, with Last Word on Spurs journalist Gary Ward reporting via X that the midfielder's future looks "likely to be away" from North London.

Idrissa Gana Gueye's exit appears to have prompted Everton into looking at signing Sarr, who is also being eyed up by Forest and has been linked with Aston Villa, Brentford, Galatasaray and Al-Ahli.

But there are other reasons as to why the Tottenham man has piqued Moyes' interest.

Why Everton are looking at signing Pape Matar Sarr

Writing on Roundtable, Ward reported that Tottenham are likely to sell Sarr due to the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali from West Ham and Newcastle, respectively.

It is understood that Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall are also "well liked" by Roberto De Zerbi and the Spurs boss doesn't wish to sell Bergvall or Rodrigo Bentacur.

That stance pushes Sarr closer to the exit and, as a result, a possible move to Everton.

Ward claims that Everton are in the process of "rebuilding" their midfield after Gueye's exit and despite already signing Norgaard and Hackney, Moyes wants to add a player with Premier League experience who also has "potential to grow".

At 23, Sarr certainly has his best years ahead of him, but what's been made of his five years at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?

Sarr's Tottenham journey coming to an end - here's what Evertonians need to know

Spurs signed Sarr from Metz in August 2021 for £14.6m and sent him back on loan to the Ligue 1 club for the entirety of the 2021-22 season.

Since kicking off his career in North London a year later, Sarr has gone on to play 141 times in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and supplying 11 assists.

He was also in Ange Postecoglou's starting line-up in Bilbao in 2025 when Spurs won the Europa League final against Manchester United.

Before the game, Postecoglou mentioned that it was Sarr's "running power" that led to his decision to start him.

Sarr can play in the centre of the midfield but has been known to play in more attacking or defensive positions.

Unless there are any more exits, it's hard to justify the need for another central player in Moyes squad.

Despite Gueye leaving, Hackney and Norgaard have joined and Moyes already has options in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tim Iroegbunam, James Garner, Harrison Armstrong and Merlin Rohl.

How about Everton spend that £30m on a right-back, instead?
