Anthony Martial is one of the free agents Everton could look to sign to solve their squad issues.

The former Manchester United man is without a club, and the Toffees could do with another striker after an awful deadline day.

Martial had last played for Mexican side Monterrey, with the forward departing back in June.

He is now seeking his next step in the professional football world.

The Frenchman has previously shown he can be a dangerous goalscorer when given regular opportunities.

With Everton needing greater depth, his availability could make him an interesting player for the club to consider, and it seems he has been considered.

There have been rumblings that Everton were looking at Martial as a free agent signing.

However, now it has emerged that the Toffees have enquired about the French striker.

According to Footmercato, David Moyes' side " recently made brief inquiries" over a move for Martial.

But nothing has since come from those initial talks.

Martial is a free agent in demand, with it also said that alongside Everton's interest, two club's in Ligue 1 had made concrete offers.

The forward, though, rejected those approaches, and is currently maintaining his fitness as he awaits the "perfect" opportunity.

A stance in which has been said to be a "risky gamble." Whether or not Everton return to see if a move is possible remains to be seen, with Moyes certainly left light in attack.

What could be blocking a move for Martial?

There is a lot to like about signing Martial, although there are also some clear negatives.

On one hand, the forward is a Premier League proven striker, having picked up 96 goals and assists combined in 209 appearances.

Everton need a backup to Thierno Barry, as if injury occurs, Moyes is forced to play someone out of position.

However, the former Manchester United man has high salary demands based on the same report.

They describe his salary as an "exorbitant" amount estimated to be near £3million a year.

Furthermore, Martial's woes over the last few years have been down to his inability to remain fit.

From 2018-19 to 2023-24, there was only one season where he did not miss double digit games for the Red Devils and France.

So, it would come with significant risk. However, even an injury-riddled Martial is better than having nobody to deputise behind Barry.
