Where Everton now stand in Anthony Martial chase as representatives take action after £3m reveal

Everton have reportedly been in talks to sign Anthony Martial on a free transfer.

The former Manchester United star is looking for his next club after leaving Mexican side Monterrey earlier this year.

It comes at a time when David Moyes has just one striker at his disposal until January at the very least, due to a deadline day for the ages.

Monaco's Folarin Balogun had a move in place to join the Toffees in a £40million deal, but an issue during his medical ultimately made the transfer collapse.

Beto's exit had only been announced not long before Balogun's move was put into jeopardy, which made the Blues try last-minute deals for the likes of Joshua Zirkzee and Tammy Abraham.

Though Thierno Barry has had a good start to the season, Everton could do with signing someone to act as cover, and talks have been held with Martial.

Everton have inquired about the prospect of signing Martial, but were made aware of the player's "exorbitant" salary demands.

It's said that the 30-year-old is looking for a club to pay him £3million per year.

As a result, nothing has come of those talks yet, with the player and his agents rejecting a brace of offers from two Ligue 1 clubs.

An update on X this Wednesday from Fabrizio Romano's ally Matteo Moretto reports that Malaga are considering a move to sign Martial.

The Frenchman appears to have been offered to the La Liga outfit by himself and his entourage.

With that said, Everton look no closer to signing Martial, and the reports that he is now being offered elsewhere could be telling.

With Martial looking less likely to come to Hill Dickinson, the pressure is all on Barry to lead the line until the January window.

But the former Villarreal star appears to have started the season in high spirits, regardless of the goals he's scored, and could be about to take his game to the next level in an Everton shirt.

However, in the nightmare scenario that the Toffees lose Barry to injury, Moyes would have to play someone out of position in the number nine role.

Internally, there is belief that Tyrique George could be the man to select as the back-up striker, and his strike against Manchester United may prove why.
