Why Everton are instantly back in Ethan Nwaneri race as Arsenal call made
Everton have been given some renewed hope of bringing in Ethan Nwaneri from Arsenal.
The 19-year-old has been touted as a target for the Toffees throughout the summer window.
Nwaneri has been on Arsenal's books since the age of eight and has made over 50 senior appearances for the Gunners.
However, the winger spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille and struggled to make an impact.
That led to talk of a permanent Arsenal exit, albeit one that Everton likely would not be able to afford.
But that may now have all changed amid a new update shared on Wednesday afternoon.
What Arsenal now hope to do with Ethan Nwaneri
Everton would have had to pay in excess of £34million for Nwaneri in order to sign him permanently from Arsenal.
That is how high Napoli were willing to go with their offer for the young attacker.
However, the Daily Mail now report via their website that Arsenal have decided they would rather loan Nwaneri out once again.
Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the England Under-21s international, who he previously hailed as "tremendous".
Arsenal would rather sell Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli than Nwaneri, who they believe could still make a big impact in North London.
Everton are credited with an interest in the Islington-born ace, as are Fulham.
It means Everton are now right back in the frame for Nwaneri as they will not need to find funds that are simply not available.
Nwaneri deal could now free up welcome Everton funds
If Everton can bring in a player of Nwaneri's calibre out wide for free - his wages not withstanding - it would mean money can be spent elsewhere.
A right-back is now the single biggest priority for Angus Kinnear and Everton.
It has already been confirmed by Kinnear that Everton will not sign a new right-back before this weekend.
The important thing is that a right-back is brought in before the window closes in two weeks' time.
Beyond that, a new striker would also be welcomed at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Thierno Barry and Beto have various strengths, but there are fears neither are prolific enough to lead David Moyes' attack.
If Everton can make those three signings between now and 1 September, the mood around the blue half of Merseyside would be completely different.
