Why Everton could be left with issue nobody's talking about as Carlos Alcaraz approach made

Carlos Alcaraz may have been offered a fresh exit path from Everton this summer.

The 23-year-old only arrived permanently at Everton last summer after an impressive spell on loan in the second half of 2024-25.

However, Alcaraz only started six Premier League matches under David Moyes last season.

Moyes admitted towards the end of the campaign that he has used the former Argentina Under-21s international out of position too often.

It has long since been speculated that Alcaraz will be on his way out of Hill Dickinson Stadium this summer.

That could well now happen, but it would also leave Everton with a void to be filled.

Where could Carlos Alcaraz now be heading?

Goodison News previously carried reports that River Plate want to sign Alcaraz from Everton.

Nothing came of that, however, and it may be that the attacking midfielder remains in Europe.

Turkish journalist Cinar Yucekurt, who has over 30,000 followers on X and writes for Plase Spor, reported on Thursday that Alcaraz is high on Besiktas' list of options.

The Super Lig side are said to have "obtained detailed information" on the Argentinian, with their interest now at a serious stage.

It remains to be seen if anything more comes of this, but if it does then Moyes will need a replacement for the role Alcaraz fulfilled.

Alcaraz more important than many realise at Everton

While it is true Alcaraz did not offer a great deal last season, he was still called upon 20 times in the league.

Only 12 outfield players featured more times for the Toffees last season, which backs up the fact Alcaraz was very much a rotational player.

Moyes knew he could call upon the former Southampton player as and when.

That is a rather underappreciated role in any side, with Alcaraz never kicking up a fuss about his lack of starts when fit.

Hayden Hackney is a great signing for Everton, albeit a different type of player to Alcaraz.

If the South American is to leave, then, someone who can fill that squad position is definitely required.
