Santiago Castro is one of the many names Everton have been linked with already this summer.

The Argentine striker would help the Toffees add depth to their attacking options currently at Hill Dickinson.

Castro has enjoyed an excellent campaign with Bologna, and that has seen him catch the eye of many European clubs.

Everton are said to be in the hunt for a striker, and the latest emerging out of Bologna could provide hope.

Two developments have since happened regarding Bologna and Castro in the transfer market.

And Everton could be ready to pounce.

Why Bologna's latest transfer stance could play into Everton's hands

Bologna's owner could ultimately help Everton land the signing of Castro this summer.

Tuttomercatoweb had linked Castro to Everton back in the middle of June as it was touted that he could look to leave.

Now, Corriere Dello Sport have shared there is a "very real" chance that Castro could complete an exit out of the Serie A club.

They state: "The risk that one of Bologna's prized assets — Castro, Rowe or Cambiaghi — could become the subject of major interest is very real.

"After all, it's hard to imagine Joey Saputo turning down a financially significant offer for any of those three."

Previously, an offer of £42million was shared as the likely price point over a transfer.

And if the owner Saputo is easily convinced to sell, that could certainly help Everton avoid lengthy discussions.

A clear willingness from Bologna to sanction a sale at the right price could help move any talks straightforwardly.

Are Bologna already preparing for Castro's exit?

Bologna look to already be resigned to losing Castro this summer, as they have begun work on signing a replacement.

According to a separate Tuttomercatoweb report, Bologna are looking at Spanish striker Carlos Espi.

The Spaniard has a £21.3m release clause, but the Serie A side believe they can negotiate that price down.

When it comes to the relation between Espi and Castro, that report again reiterates that "there's pressure from the Premier League" to sign the Argentine.

So, along with Saputo's reported willingness to sanction a sale and Bologna's preemptiveness to sign a striker, there could be a deal to be had.

Fans will be eagerly awaiting to see where David Moyes' squad planning turns next, as Thierno Barry faces interest, too.
