Why Christian Kofane's agent was spotted at Finch Farm as Everton ramp up pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen ace
Everton are stepping up their bid to sign Bayer Leverkusen teenager Christian Kofane.
The Cameroon striker, 19, scored seven goals and supplied nine assists in 44 appearances across all competitions for Leverkusen last season.
One of those goals came in a Champions League draw with PSV, while an assist against Manchester City helped Leverkusen to a shock 2-0 win at the Etihad back in November.
Now, Everton are trying to sign Kofane, with his agent being spotted at Finch Farm on Wednesday as he looks to get a deal done with the Toffees ahead of next season.
The Toffees have spent over £50million so far this summer on signing Merlin Rohl and Tyrique George permanently after their loan stays at Hill Dickinson Stadium, plus Hayden Hackney, who's arrived from Middlesbrough.
Everton are not wasting time in the race for Kofane now, with the latest development showing they are looking to accelerate their pursuit.
The reason Christian Kofane's agent held talks at Finch Farm
According to Daily Arsenal journalist David Schill, Kofane's agent Eric Depolo was at Everton's training ground on Wednesday to hold talks over a potential move.
It is understood that the talks were "positive", but Arsenal are also interested in signing the Cameroon international.
Schill adds that Everton are "pushing to accelerate a deal" for Kofane, whose agent has taken a public approach to trying to sort out a deal elsewhere.
Speaking in April, Depolo said "Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton, Brentford, Barcelona and Bayern Munich" are all keen on his client.
With Kofane attracting attention from several clubs, his profile explains why Everton are keen to get a deal over the line.
Why Bayer Leverkusen's Kofane has become a target for Everton
Kofane's stats last season were impressive for a teenager in the Bundesliga.
They're made even more impressive by the fact that he recorded 16 total goal involvements despite only averaging 45 minutes of football each game.
Everton really need to bolster their centre-forward options this season after a largely negative bag of results from Beto and Thierno Barry last term.
As described on Leverkusen's website, Kofane is "powerful, fast and prolific".
Those attributes, coupled with his age, show that he's not only a signing that could make a difference for Everton in the upcoming season, he could be a star man for them for years to come.
