Why Folarin Balogun has effectively left door open for Everton after new transfer admission
Folarin Balogun has not ruled anything out after a failed summer move to Everton.
The striker featured in one of the most dramatic deadline day sagas that the Premier League has seen in recent years.
The Toffees had agreed a £40million move with AS Monaco for the USA international, who was at Finch Farm hours before the window slammed shut.
An issue cropped up during Balogun's medical, and the Blues successfully renegotiated a lower fee plus performance-related add-ons with Monaco for the 25-year-old.
However, the player himself decided against joining David Moyes' side, after finding out they were also trying to sign either Joshua Zirkzee or Tammy Abraham.
Balogun felt betrayed by Everton, and has opened up on the move falling through.
Folarin Balogun speaks out after failed Everton move - 'I was close'
Balogun felt like Everton had mistreated him in the final hours of the deadline day, as there was a clear miscommunication issue.
The Toffees decided that they were going to sign another number nine along with Balogun, and were still trying to finalise a deal for the former Arsenal youngster.
Balogun had been at Finch Farm all day, so he and his representatives decided to walk away, but a move to England may not be off the cards after all.
While speaking to talkSPORT at the first NFL London game of the season on Sunday, Balgoun responded to questions about whether he will still go to the Premier League in the future.
He said: "Yes, potentially. Football has many twists and turns as we’ve seen after the World Cup.
"I was close to a transfer, didn’t materialise, but for sure it’s definitely an option."
That said, Balogun could still leave Monaco in the winter window, as it seems both parties were keen for their story to end.
He has only played once for Monaco this season, and it remains to be seen whether he can break back into the French side's squad.
What Balogun's 'focus' is after failed Everton move
Moyes was left "disappointed" after a move for Balogun fell through in the eleventh hour, with currently the only senior striker at Everton.
Beto's departure made it clear that the Toffees were going to sign another player up top, but remarkably, it didn't happen.
Though Balgoun has not featured much for Monaco, he is still hoping for the best in France.
He said: "It’s been a good start to the season. We’ve started the last three seasons well, so I think the focus is how you finish it. So we take it step-by-step."
Balogun has perhaps had less game time because of the same issue that appeared in his medical with Everton.
Either way, the Toffees now know that the striker is still keen on moving to the Premier League, so they would have to sit down and talk to him about the miscommunication issues to get a deal done.
