Why Matty Cash would have to address awkward Goodison encounter before Everton move
Matty Cash has been linked with a move from Aston Villa to Everton.
The search for a new right-back has taken yet another twist at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Many options have emerged as targets for that position on Merseyside this summer.
Daniel Munoz is on the table and Timothy Castagne has recently joined him on the shortlist.
The Villa man has now entered the reckoning on Merseyside with just days remaining until the season begins.
Cash would be a top signing for Everton, but it could come with some uncomfortable questions.
What happened to Matty Cash at Goodison Park?
The Poland international has been an ever-present in claret and blue since moving to B6 in 2020.
He has made over 230 appearances and now has a Europa League medal in his cabinet.
Cash has featured 12 times against Everton across his career and has picked up seven wins in that time.
A certain one of those wins came at Goodison Park in January 2022 as the Villans ran out 1-0 victors.
It will be remembered by the right-back for all the wrong reasons as he was struck by a missile from the stands after Emi Buendia's winner.
An individual was arrested on the day and Cash made his feelings clear at full-time.
As per Sky Sports, he said: "It was crazy. It hit me straight on the head. It's not nice having that but we got three points, so we'll take that."
It was far from a good impression of the Blues supporters and would need to be addressed if he were to move.
How much could Everton pay for Cash?
The idea of signing the defender did come out of nowhere on Wednesday.
A report from Alan Nixon via Patreon suggested that Cash has emerged as the favoured choice for right-back on Merseyside.
There is hope that the Polish ace could be tempted to make an L3 switch by a long-term contract.
He would reportedly cost a fee in the region of £20million, a fee that could prove to be somewhat of a bargain.
If himself and Everton can get over the awkwardness of what happened at Goodison, this transfer could be excellent.
