Everton player gives instant reaction as Sky Sports share breaking transfer news

Asmir Begovic believes Carlos Alcaraz is an “exciting signing” for Everton in the closing days of the winter transfer window.

The 22-year-old is expected to complete his loan move to Goodison Park in the next 24 hours [Daily Mail] as David Moyes signs off an incredible 4-0 win against Leicester City on Saturday (1 February) with his first signing.

Now, Begovic has reacted to the newest addition live on Sky Sports News [2 February, 12:37] and believes the ex-Southampton man will be a welcome boost for the Blues.

After being told the “breaking news” that Alcaraz is to undergo a medical ahead of completing the formalities, back-up goalkeeper Begovic said: “It’s an exciting signing.

“He’s someone who’s played in the Premier League before and for some big clubs. It’s no secret we’ve lost a couple of players to injury over the past week or so, leaving us short of numbers, so he’ll be a really welcome addition to the squad.”

Everton plan to strengthen further before the deadline

Those who questioned The Friedkin Group’s decision to appoint Moyes for a second spell on Merseyside will now indeed be eating their words.

The 61-year-old has now won as many Premier League matches this term as predecessor Sean Dyche in only four outings.

Everton are now nine points clear of the relegation zone with a game in hand, and the Merseyside outfit could be considered outside contenders for a midtable or potentially top-half finish this season.

Nevertheless, the Toffees are not taking anything for granted and could add “one or two” players before the transfer window slams shut on 3 February [Alan Myers].

However, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Kevin Thelwell’s strategy will change, and plenty of activity is expected in the next 24 hours.

In other Everton news, Vitalii Mykolenko will be “looking over his shoulders” after a £20m transfer update at the Toffees.
