The Scotsman said: “I’m not sure that he would get the opportunities in the position we bought him to play.”

It is an unfortunate situation for the player, whose career has undoubtedly stalled as an impact from the transfer.

Everton’s intentions with the move look more and more bizarre, considering Moyes is not even willing to give him a chance.

If they see a young talent such as the Moroccan not even be handed an opportunity, they may think it is not a good career move for them.

Aznou still has three years left on his contract, so perhaps a loan away from the Toffees this summer is on the cards, with a view to integrating him the following season.

For Everton, this situation is certainly a lesson. If a player is going to be purchased, they should be brought in with a plan already in place for their development.

When it comes to Aznou, it seems they did not do such a thing, and questions must be asked of the transfer strategy that identified the defender as a target.
