Everton’s transfer reputation damaged by David Moyes, young talent will avoid Hill Dickinson

Everton are going to struggle to sign young talent this summer due to the evidence that’s been on show from David Moyes throughout the 2025-26 campaign.

The Toffees spent over £100million last summer, mainly on young players who seemed to have the potential of making an impact in the Premier League.

Now that the season has concluded, the Everton boss was near the top of the charts for rotating his side the least amount this campaign, which is telling of his trust in youth players.

Instead, the Scottish head coach insisted on using the same players time and time again, and though Europe looked to be on at one point, a deflated end to the season meant he could’ve used more young prospects.

Now, Everton are gearing up for the summer window with multiple players on their radar, but they may struggle to convince young stars to come to Hill Dickinson given what’s been on show in Merseyside this term.

These stats show that David Moyes has harmed Everton’s reputation

Moyes has come under fire for his use of youngsters this season, and seems to be fed up when asked the same questions in interviews.

However, the Blues boss consistently says that he will play these boys if he sees enough from them in training, but some of the cases are just purely bizarre.

As seen in the table above, Adam Aznou is yet to play a single minute in the Premier League despite joining for a hefty fee from Bayern Munich last summer.

The £40million signing of Tyler Dibling continues to frustrate as the 20-year-old has managed just four starts in the top flight, amassing a measly 350 minutes in total, despite managing 1874 minutes for Southampton last season.

Thierno Barry has played the most with 21 starts and 38 appearances in total, but even the young Frenchman has had large spells out of the starting lineup, in place of 28-year-old Beto.

Merlin Rohl and Charly Alcaraz have just 12 starts between them, and the latter made even more appearances in the starting eleven for half of last season when joining on loan from Southampton, before having his move made permanent.

What Everton targets may snub Moyes this summer?

You could even highlight the treatment of Harrison Armstrong as cruel, given the teenager had his positive loan spell with Preston cut short, for no real reason.

The midfielder returned to Hill Dickinson in the winter, played a few games under Moyes, who admitted he wanted the player to then go back to Preston on loan not long after, as a deal could not be finalised.

Esmir Bajraktarevic is a youngster on Everton’s radar as the PSV hotshot is one of several young talents that the Blues are looking at.

But Bajraktarevic, among other players, may not be convinced that joining the Blues is the right move to make, especially seeing how many youth talents got limited chances at Hill Dickinson this season.
