Everton’s indecision on Tyrique George tells David Moyes everything he needs to know

Everton have still not made up their minds on whether to sign Tyrique George permanently.

The winger joined the Blues on loan in the winter transfer window, and made 11 appearances in the second half of the season.

The deal contains a buy option that would bring the 20-year-old to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but that has not been activated yet.

BBC Chelsea correspondent Nizaar Kinsella claimed on 30 May that David Moyes‘ side are still weighing up whether to take up that option.

Everton’s indecision on the matter should tell the Scotsman everything that he needs to know.

Why Everton indecision makes George decision obvious

Everton have seen small glimpses of George, but clearly not enough to convince them that a permanent move is the right one.

If they had, then they would have activated it, and he would be lined up to be their first signing of the window already.

Kinsella claims that the value of the option is not clear, although it could be in a similar ballpark to the £22million fee that nearly saw him move to Fulham last summer.

That is cheap for a winger with the potential that the Chelsea man has, so the fact that there is any indecision means that they should look elsewhere.

Why George is set for same fate as Dibling if Everton sign him

George will likely go on to be a solid top-flight player, but it should not be on Merseyside.

The Blues need players who are ready to contribute straight away, not in the future like the England Under-21 international is expected to do.

They need to be challenging for European places, and signing players who are not ready is not the right move, regardless of their high future potential.

If they signed George permanently, he would likely go the same way as Tyler Dibling, who was signed for around £40m and has barely played.

The Friedkin Group can’t afford to get another deal wrong for a young winger who will barely feature under Moyes, they should avoid the option to sign George.

Their focus should be on bringing in top-quality players, who can push the side on to the required level to reach a European berth.
