Everton and the rest of the Premier League are awaiting to hear the extent of Manchester City's punishment.

The Citizens have been found guilty on 114 breaches of Premier League rules, although they are still looking to appeal.

The Toffees will be one of the most interested parties in the outcome of the case, seeing as they were on the end of much lesser charges that resulted in a points deduction back in the 2023-24 season.

A deduction for Manchester City has been part of the wide discussion with Everton often being used as precedent.

As everyone awaits to hear the final decision, the debate will only continue to rumble on.

With former Premier League striker Charlie Austin now weighing in.

How has Charlie Austin compared Everton to Manchester City's possible points deduction

Manchester City have been the talk of the international break, and likely the main topic of discussion until their charges are resolved one way or the other.

Everton fans will certainly be hoping for a fair punishment to be handed down, at least with their previous charges in mind too.

A points deduction, like the Toffees received is on the table, a decision that had quite the affect on the Merseyside club.

Speaking on talkSPORT on the afternoon of 3 October, presenter Ade Oladipo brought up that fact.

He stated: "If I'm an Everton fan or a Forest fan, or even a Derby fan a few years back, you've taken points off us.

"You've taken points off us, that's put us in a position where, I mean, Everton have struggled the last couple of seasons. Everton aren't the same club they were. Derby, you struggled. Do it to them."

However, former Southampton forward Austin has questioned whether that would be the case with City as it was with Everton.

He said: "But then you've got to be strong enough and puff your chest out, and I mean this respectfully, they're not giants like Manchester City. They don't have the financial backing, the power."

How Everton could be involved in Manchester City being expelled from Premier League

When will Manchester City punishment be announced?

When Everton were charged by the Premier League, they were handed out a punishment immediately, but with a case of this magnitude it is not a surprise that has yet to happen.

Man City do have an appeal put in, and according to updated rules, that should be concluded by December.

The Citizens though are also trying to argue against that timeline as the case pre-dated that change.

Hopefully, it is not too long before a decision is made, as a substantial points deduction to Man City would also help Everton in their goal to qualify for European football this season.

One less team to compete with would be a major positive for this campaign.

For now, the Blues will have to truck on, with hopes that talismen Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall can push Everton one step closer than last season.
