Simon Jordan believes David Moyes is talking "rubbish" over comments made regarding The Friedkin Group's decision to sell up at Everton.

It was confirmed on Friday that The Friedkins are exploring the sale of the Toffees, less than two years after taking control.

While it had been rumoured the American group had wanted out, the official confirmation still came as a surprise to many.

The Friedkins had reportedly tried to bring minority shareholders on board, but that plan did not come to fruition.

Speaking shortly after the news emerged, Moyes said he was "surprised", but perhaps should have known following what happened in the summer transfer window.

However, outspoken former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan has hit back at what Moyes said.

Everton's failure to land a striker in the summer, especially after letting Beto and Iliman Ndiaye leave, still raises eyebrows.

Moyes implied at Friday's pre-Hull City press conference that developments on deadline day perhaps indicated The Friedkins were ready to move on, and therefore did not want to splash more cash.

But reacting to those comments live on talkSPORT on Tuesday morning, Jordan said: "What a load of rubbish. He doesn't know what's going on, anymore than anyone else did.

"What, because they didn't give him exactly what he wanted, that's his logic? 'I didn't get what I wanted so I knew they were going to sell'."

Jordan went on to defend The Friedkin Group's decision to sell up, pointing out how they have stabilised the club and were never really likely to stick around given they had zero links to Everton previously.

What does Friedkin sale decision mean for Everton in the short term?

There is no doubt that The Friedkins' priorities lie elsewhere - namely Serie A side Roma, whom they also own.

However, assuming they are still around come January, The Friedkins are prepared to back Everton in the transfer window.

That is not to say a large sum will be splashed out on a player, but it sounds as though a striker will be recruited.

Moyes needs to ensure Everton remain competitive until then, but all it takes is one or two injuries and the squad really will be depleted.

Beyond then, the hope is that new owners will then be in place ready in time for next summer so that Everton can truly push on.
