Sean Dyche: Keeping Everton’s head above water
When Sean Dyche was appointed in January 2023, Everton were in a real bind on the pitch and in dire financial straits off it. He managed to keep the Toffees above water, ensuring Premier League survival and then doing so comfortably the following campaign despite seeing his side docked eight points for two separate breaches of PSR. However, he was dismissed in January 2025 with Everton once again mired in relegation trouble and the Friedkin Group ready to move in a different direction. Dyche’s legacy will also be complicated. He certainly had to deal with really tough circumstances at Goodison Park and he admirably kept the club’s head above water. But his hugely pragmatic style of management was not always looked at favourably, and there was a sense when he moved on that it was the right time for everyone.
Sean Dyche’s managerial record
Dyche had a 30.95 per cent win record at Everton, taking 26 victories from 84 games in charge. At previous club Burnley, he won 149 of 425 matches for a win percentage of 35.06. Here is his full career record to date.

Dyche has never won a “major” honour, but he did win the Championship title with Burnley in 2015-16, and helped the Clarets to promotion in second place two years before that. He is also a three-time Premier League Manager of the Month winner.
