David Seaman could only empathise with Jordan Pickford after the Everton ace's moment to forget in England against Norway.

The Three Lions booked their place in the World Cup semi-finals with a comeback 2-1 win after extra time in Miami last Saturday.

However, Pickford had a moment to forget as he allowed Andreas Schjelderup's cross-shot to sail over him into the top-right corner.

Thankfully for Pickford, Jude Bellingham came to the fore, scoring a fine individual goal to level things up before the break.

The Real Madrid ace then followed in from Morgan Rogers' saved effort in extra time, with England now set to face Argentina on Wednesday in the last four.

Pickford did not enjoy his best perfomance in an Engand jersey, but former Three Lions goalkeeper Seaman couldn't help make light of the situation.

David Seaman can empathise with Jordan Pickford error

Pickford copped for plenty of criticism in the aftermath of the game.

But Seaman - who was part of the England team knocked out by Argentina in 1998 - took a more light-hearted view of things.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper hinted at his own England horror back in 2002, when he allowed a long-range Ronaldinho effort to sail over him as England were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Brazil.

Seaman had the talkSPORT studio in hysterics when he commented on the Hawksbee and Jacobs show: "It was a misread, whether a cross-shot or whatever...I don't want to go there obviously!"

He then offered a more pragmatic view of Pickford's error, adding: "What gave it away for me was that he tucked his hand away from it, that's where the error lies. The way he took his hand away from it means he thought it was going over.

"Things like this happen in games. He had a little fumble in the second half, which didn't seem too convincing.

"But overall he's been brilliant, let's move on and look forward to this game against Argentina."

Pickford criticism is excessive

The truth is Pickford hasn't had his best tournament with England.

He will feel he could have done better with Brian Cipenga's goal when England fought back to beat DR Congo in the last 32.

And in the opening game against Croatia, some felt he could have done more to save Martin Baturina's goal as England ran out 4-2 winners.

But Pickford is not England's all-time record World Cup appearance holder for nothing.

He has been an excellent servant for his country, and remains a goalkeeper of the highest quality.

One thing is for sure, Pickford has broad shoulders and will have no problem shrugging the latest criticism off.
