Everton keeper Jordan Pickford continues to face scrutiny from Emmanuel Petit at the World Cup.

The 32-year-old has maintained his number one shirt with England throughout the summer.

Thomas Tuchel has stood by the shot-stopper even after some questionable moments.

Arguably his most frustrating scenes came against DR Congo where he left an effort in at the near post despite getting a hand to the ball.

He then went on to play a key role in the historic win away to Mexico to book a place in the quarter-final.

Pickford went on to then star against Norway, but it still wasn't good enough for Petit.

Emmanuel Petit not having Jordan Pickford excuses

For whatever reason, the one-time World Cup winner has it out for the Everton man this summer.

That Goodison News previously reported that Petit was even negative after the win at the Azteca as he suggested he as "surprised" that the keeper had made "some good saves".

The ex-France international massively downplayed his contribution in the round of 16 clash after what was a world class showing.

He hasn't changed his opinion and has even doubled down after Pickford conceded a cross-come-shot from Andreas Schjelderup against Norway.

Petit wasn't one for any excuses as he slammed the Everton man live via talkSPORT on Tuesday.

He said: "Tell me about the goal he conceded? Come on. Of course [he could have done better, definitely. I know that he probably thought it was a cross instead of a shot, but he's a goalkeeper, he has to be careful about that.

"The way he conceded the goal, it's a surprise, but did you see the faces of the defenders after he conceded the goal? They were surprised too."

Ex-England international has defended Everton's Jordan Pickford

The former Arsenal midfielder may not be impressed by the Toffees man after what he's seen on the international stage.

It appears that he does have an opinion that he is unwilling to shift from, for whatever reason.

That hasn't been helped by Pickford conceding such a bizarre goal against Norway, but many believe it wasn't his fault.

Former England teammate Jack Butland has echoed that and, as a goalkeeper himself, he knows what he is talking about.

Speaking on talkSPORT about the Everton man on Monday, he said: "It is such a difficult one to deal with. It's the only one you can't prepare for.

"He's in a good position for a cut-back, he's in a good position for a normal strike on goal. Once it gets that far above him and into the top corners, you can't prepare for that.

"You can't take up a position to prevent that and if you do, you give up something else. For him, I really don't know what more he could have done positionally to stop it."

If a goalkeeper and former England international is saying this, maybe Petit could learn a thing or two from it.

Although when told about the comments, he laughed, so maybe not.
