Joleon Lescott shares what Steven Gerrard thinks about Everton ace Harrison Armstrong
Harrison Armstrong's Everton future looked unclear just a couple of months ago.
The teenager spent the first half of last season on loan with Preston, and impressed at Deepdale.
David Moyes opted to recall the talented youngster, but his game time last season proved limited.
But there was no doubt that Armstrong could play a role for Everton, which is why there was so much consternation when he was almost sold in the summer.
Everton had reportedly agreed a deal with Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest over a £40million sale, before having a change of heart following backlash from supporters.
He has been hugely impressive since, and former Toffees defender Joleon Lescott shared what Liverpool stalwart Steven Gerrard did when he spoke about Armstrong.
Steven Gerrard gives his thoughts on Everton ace Harrison Armstrong
It has been some turnaround for Armstrong, who was almost out of the door at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Everton's hierarchy made a lot of missteps during the summer transfer window, but selling Armstrong would have been right up there with the worst decision they could have made.
Thankfully, they saw sense - albeit only because of the supporters - and Armstrong has cemented himself as a real key figure under David Moyes.
Indeed, his performances have been drawing plenty of praise, with Gerrard clearly among those who likes what he's seen.
Lescott was speaking on TNT Sports prior to Saturday's clash with Chelsea, and shared a little more about what Gerrard thinks of Armstrong.
Lescott said: "Steven Gerrard was waxing lyrical about him.
"When a player of Steven Gerrard's magnitude is speaking that highly of you, you can definitely go on to be an international."
The sky is the limit for Everton gem Harrison Armstrong
Imagine the uproar had Everton gone ahead with their intention to sell Armstrong and he had performed this well in a Forest shirt.
Why on earth anyone ever thought it would be a good idea to let such a talented youngster go to a rival is beyond comprehension.
Thankfully, he did stay and he has been hugely impressive in an Everton shirt this term.
There is, of course, the possibility that some of Europe's biggest clubs eventually come calling, because he has the talent to play on the biggest stages.
If he continues on the trajectory he is, then surely Thomas Tuchel will also take a look at him for future England squads.
The sky really is the limit for Armstrong.
