Paul Merson is worried about Everton in the Premier League.

The Toffees only suffered their first defeat of the entire season against Chelsea on 17 October.

Losing 2-0 at Hill Dickinson Stadium, David Moyes had serious questions about the officials in that one.

It doesn't get any easier for the Blues, with a trip to Arsenal and the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.

With squad depth a real issue, serious questions have started to be asked.

Merson is one of those who doubts any success this season, with their previous results now used as the exact reason why.

Are Everton ambitions that realistic?

With talk of a push for Europe, others have started to say their eyes should be on the other half of the table.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday Build Up on 24 October, Merson wasn't having those ambitions.

"When I looked at those fixtures, they haven't played anybody," he said, with a graphic of Everton's results shown on screen.

"All the teams they've played are real struggling teams like Tottenham, you played at the right time.

"Man United, not playing well, Palace, having their worst start for a long time. Bournemouth only won last week, Ipswich and Hull have just come up.

"For me, I'd be worried, they've won two football matches this season."

Everton issues are stacking up

It isn't just on the pitch when the problems are.

The Friedkin Group have very publicy placed Everton up for sale less than two years after their own purchase, raising serious doubts over investment in January.

Everton are in desperate need of new signings, too.

With less than 20 senior outfield players, any injuries that stack up will be a huge problem.

Moyes only has one senior option at each full-back and up front, with Thierno Barry seriously coming under the microscope this season already.

Every missed chance is scrutinised further, despite him already outscoring his total from last season.

In the Premier League, you're more known for what goes wrong, rather than what you're doing right, though.

That's the brutal nature of the business, and if results continue to go down hill, Everton could slip very quickly.

But, on the complete opposite end of the scale, another couple of wins on top of the two they have, and this conversation changes completely.

It's not time to worry yet.
