The 'invaluable' tactical switch David Moyes can make at Everton because of Tyler Dibling

Tyler Dibling is showing signs of finally finding his feet at Everton.

The young winger joined the Toffees in a £40million from Southampton in the summer of 2025.

However, his first campaign at Hill Dickinson Stadium was hugely underwhelming.

It even led to suggestions that an exit could be on the cards just a year on from joining.

However, Dibling had a decent pre-season, and was a star turn in the midweek 1-0 Carabao Cup victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Now, it has been suggested his performance could unlock a new option for David Moyes as he manages a threadbare squad.

Dibling provided the assist for Charly Alcaraz to score the only goal of the game against Wolves.

Moreover, the 20-year-old showed plenty of other promising signs against a team only recently relegated from the Premier League.

It comes at a good time for Moyes, who was left with just one senior striker after a dismal transfer window.

Joe Thomas, writing in the Liverpool Echo, thinks that Dibling finding his form could see Brennan Johnson act as a back-up striker to Thierno Barry if need be.

He described having an in-form Dibling as "invaluable" for Moyes as he looks to manage his resources accordingly.

Thomas wrote: "The spoils for Everton and Dibling should the player start showcasing the talent he undoubtedly has are great.

"After the turbulence of deadline day, when Moyes' attack lost Iliman Ndiaye and Beto, with only Jack Grealish arriving, the emergence of a fifth attacking option he can count on would be invaluable for Moyes.

"If Dibling can emerge as a fifth option, suddenly Moyes has something to work with. Options would still be thin but he can rest and rotate, he could consider Johnson as an option up top, he would have a fighting chance. This is his chance and that is Moyes’ hope."

Tyler Dibling must continue upward trajectory

It was extremely promising to see Dibling find some form in the win over Wolves.

Dibling showed some really promising signs in pre-season, but has been consigned to appearances in the Carabao Cup so far.

Now, though, he has really given Moyes something to think about, especially in a team that is going to need to share around the goals this season.

Moyes might now be inclined to give Dibling some minutes in the Premier League and showcase his talent in the hustle and bustle of the top flight.

The onus really is on Dibling to prove he can continue on this upward trajectory, though.

This has to be the start of an upward curve, not just a one-off decent display.
