The worst thing ever said about Everton in their 148-year history emerges in astonishing rant

Everton may have started the season strongly, but a major lack of ambition behind the scenes continues to cripple the historic Merseyside club.

Since buying Everton in 2024, US billionaire Dan Friedkin hasn't attended a single game, nor has the Blues chairman been documented as even being in Liverpool.

Last season, Everton saw a bid to qualify for European football crumble while in the summer transfer window, every single fan was left reeling by the number of players who were allowed to leave without being replaced.

David Moyes is, however, doing a tremendous job at keeping things together despite having to work with one hand seemingly tied behind his back by an owner and chairman who appears to only be interested in what's going on in Italy.

However, Friedkin's ownership hasn't been half as bad as the miserable final years of Farhad Moshiri's spell at the top of the club and the wait for glory and silverware extends a lot longer than anyone who's currently at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

And that drought has led to an extraordinary rant about Everton's lack of success on talkSPORT.

Jason Cundy tears Everton to shreds in brutal rant

His continual mocking of Tottenham has seen Jason Cundy's popularity increase in the last year or so.

However, the talkSPORT host has now turned his ire towards Everton, suggesting that the Toffees don't even try to look as though they're trying to do anything other than just "linger" in the Premier League.

"At least [Tottenham] pretend to try. They don't even pretend to try - they don't even try," said Cundy on talkSPORT's The Sports Bar.

"I'm going to say it now - I think Everton are the worst club to support. Worse than Spurs."

When asked why by Jamie O'Hara, Cundy said: "Because they don't look like or feel like they can do anything or win anything.

"I said to you the other day, they just hang around. They're like a bad smell. They literally linger in the Premier League.

"They linger, hanging around doing nothing. Everton do nothing."

It's without a doubt the worst thing anyone has probably said about Everton; an utterly scathing assessment that barely anyone can even argue with.

Everton have played in the top flight of English football since the 1954-55 season and since then have won four league titles, three FA Cups and one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

Their last piece of major silverware came in 1994-95 when they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the FA Cup final courtesy of a first-half goal from Paul Rideout.

Such a historic club has been reduced to staying around like a "bad smell".

It's harsh, but this is the reality on the blue half of Merseyside.

Upon initially hearing Cundy's rant, it's fair to get angered and ask how a wind-up merchant on talkSPORT can say such a thing about the Grand Old Club.

However, when you sit back and assess what he's saying - he's right.

Everton have had incredibly talented players in their squads since the FA Cup success of the mid-1990s

Wayne Rooney, Romelu Lukaku, James Rodriguez, Richarlison, Jordan Pickford and Marouane Fellaini are among the players who should have made a difference on Merseyside and should have led Everton to some sort of silverware.

On top of that, the Blues have had seriously wealthy owners - and right now they have a US billionaire at the top who doesn't seem to want to buck the trend and actually get this club to win anything.

Everton are huge, one of the biggest clubs in the country - fans have every right to be disappointed by the last three decades.

And that's why not only is Cundy's rant is the worst thing that's been said about Everton in their 148-year-old, it's also bang on the money.
