Three solutions David Moyes can use to fix key Everton squad issues, including youth call-up

Everton have somehow left their squad in a weaker position following the transfer window.

The Toffees knew what they needed to do in the market, but they left it late to capture players in the right positions.

And in some cases, they did not even sign any new players for those roles.

David Moyes will undoubtedly be upset with how his squad had been left, especially with eyes on qualifying for Europe.

Everton are left with just one senior striker, one left-back and one right-back.

And if European qualification is to be secured, Moyes may have to find solutions within his squad.

Why right-back is an easy solve for David Moyes at Everton

Ainsley Maitland-Niles has arrived as Everton's right-back signing, but the Englishman is the only recognised right full-back in L3.

However, in this instance, Moyes' solutions seem to be quite straightforward.

Jake O'Brien is still at Everton, and Merlin Rohl has performed well at right-back over the early parts of the season.

But solutions in the other notable gaps in the squad may not be as quite straightforward.

Why left-back may now be Everton's biggest issue

In a somewhat reversal of events, left-back may now be a bigger worry than on the other side.

After allowing Adam Aznou to leave late on in the window, the Toffees left themselves with just one senior left-back in Vitalii Mykolenko.

Unlike with Rohl and O'Brien, there are no immediate options that jump out for Moyes.

So, it may have to be Jarrad Branthwaite who deputises for Mykolenko, should the Ukrainian need a rest or get injured.

The Englishman is the only left-footed defender in the squad, and is the only option that truly makes sense.

That is unless Moyes turns to a youth star to make an impact.

How Everton can solve lack of striker depth by adding more wide options

The failure to get a move for Folarin Balogun over the line on deadline day could come back to haunt Everton.

Thierno Barry is the lone number nine for the Toffees and injury to him would leave Moyes scrambling for options.

Tyrique George is the obvious candidate to move centrally should Barry need a rest, but that may also limit Everton's options out wide.

However, young talent Braiden Graham has been named as a wide option by Moyes, and if George is moved centrally, the lack of depth can certainly be circumvented by the inclusion of the Northern Irishman.
