Everton missed out on a multitude of players in the summer transfer window.

The tragic end of the Blues' transfer window has been well documented in the media over the last couple of days.

However, missing out on targets was the theme of the market for the Toffees this summer.

David Moyes needed reinforcements in several positions, and while the Merseysiders signed several players, it was not enough.

They brought in Brennan Johnson, Jack Grealish, Tyrique George, Merlin Rohl, Hayden Hackney, Christian Norgaard and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Everton missed out on a plethora of attackers this summer

The most high profile attackers that the Toffees failed to sign was Folarin Balogun, whose deadline day move fell apart after a deal sheet was submitted.

An agreement in principle to sign Richarlison from Tottenham was reached, but the interest in the Monaco forward saw that put on the back-burner.

Late approaches for Joshua Zirkzee and Tammy Abraham emerged as that deal looked in doubt.

Ethan Wheatley was supposed to be signing from Manchester United, but the Blues pulled out of that deal.

Christian Kofane, Liam Delap, Zian Flemming and Troy Parrott were widely linked, but nothing materialised with those two.

The L3 outfit were also chasing wingers, and Jacob Murphy was a serious link throughout the summer.

Numerous reports from Germany mentioned Stuttgart's Jamie Leweling, while Turkish sources constantly named Baris Alper Yilmaz as a target.

They also made a late approach for Abde Ezzalzouli, according to a report from Seville-based journalist Pepe Elias.

Various reports claimed that Jonathan Rowe, Assane Diao, Jean-Matteo Bahoya, Ethan Nwaneri, Keito Nakamura and Leo Scienza were on the agenda.

Bournemouth's Marcus Tavernier was subject to an enquiry, according to talkSPORT reporter Ben Jacobs.

Everton's right-back search was extremely thorough

Daniel Munoz and Djed Spence were heavily linked with the Blues.

Other options with Premier League experience that were reportedly of interest include Kyle Walker, Ola Aina, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Lutsharel Geertruida, Matty Cash, Timothy Castagne, and Trai Hume.

Kenny Tete was the subject of a £9million bid, but that move fell apart due to Fulham's failure to secure a replacement.

Guela Doue was touted as the top target for most of the window, and former Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior has previously branded him as a "fantastic professional."

Reports in Italy regularly mentioned the likes of Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Raoul Bellanova as targets.

Javi Rodriguez, Jordan Teze, Ridle Baku, Amar Dedic were also supposedly of interest.

Spanish newspaper AS had named Roma's Nahuel Molina as a contender for the berth, but he instead moved from Atletico Madrid to the Italian capital.

Other defensive targets that were not right-backs include Federico Gatti, Jayden Oosterwolde, Melvin Bard, and Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Midfielders were also on the agenda this summer at Everton

The loss of Idrissa Gueye meant that the Toffees needed reinforcements in central midfield.

Parma's Mandela Keita was a target at one stage, with reports from Sky Sports Italia linking the Blues with him.

Pape Matar Sarr was an option with Premier League experience that was supposedly on the Merseysiders' shortlist.

Patrick Berg, Pavel Sulc, Pape Gueye and Richard Rios and Ngal’ayel Mukau were all named as potential incomings throughout the window.

La Gazetta Dello Sport had claimed that Douglas Luis was of interest to Moyes' side, but nothing happened with that.

Overall, it was an underwhelming window that did not solve all of the issues that Moyes has.
