Wayne Rooney raves over MOTD footage of Tyrique George in Everton draw vs Man Utd

Wayne Rooney was very impressed by Tyrique George's performance in Everton's draw with Manchester United.

The 20-year-old saw his loan move from Chelsea turned permanent by Everton at the start of the summer.

However, after failing to provide a single goal contribution in 11 games for the Toffees last term, he still has plenty to prove.

But he's on his way to doing exactly that, having banked a couple of very impressive displays so far this season.

David Moyes afforded George with the full 90 minutes in the 2-2 draw with Man United on Sunday, and he would be greatly rewarded for it.

The winger scored the first of Everton's two goals, and looked a real danger all afternoon long.

Sunday's draw with the Red Devils was arguably George's best performance in an Everton shirt.

It was a clear sign of his long-touted potential to star at Premier League level.

Speaking on BBC's Match of the Day on 6 September, Rooney waxed lyrical over the youngster's performance.

"I thought he (George) was fantastic today. Especially in the second half," Rooney said.

"It looked like the message was just give the ball to him, because he was committing defenders, attracting players to him.

"He's willing to run in behind and cause Man United problems, especially in the second half.

"Fans love when attacking players commit defenders. He was just so difficult for Manchester United to mark all game.

"That is unbelievable (George's goal). That touch. You say a keeper shouldn't get beat on his near post but I don't think (Senne) Lammens had any chance that."

As Rooney explains, it wasn't just George's goal that saw him catch the eye against Man United.

It was a complete performance from the young forward, and one that proved he's capable of being a key player for the Toffees this term.

As per FotMob, no player on the pitch on Sunday created more chances (three) or completed more dribbles (four) than George.

He also completed 93 per cent of his passes accurately, took five touches in the United box and played five line-breaking passes.

George also won seven ground duels, three fouls, made 13 sprints and three recoveries.

It's now up to George to prove that he can perform at this level consistently, and if he can, Moyes has some player on his hands.
