Merlin Rohl has been put through his paces in training by Everton team-mate Tyrique George.

George spent the last half of the 2025-26 campaign on loan from Chelsea at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The 20-year-old did not score or assist in that time but certainly caught the eye of supporters with his lively performances.

Indeed, it was enough to convince the Toffees to strike a permanent deal with the Blues to bring him back to the club.

Everton forked out an initial £18million to sign George, and the total sum could reach £24m with add-ons.

Rohl has been discussing the impact George has made in training, including a three-word plea supporters will love to hear.

What has Merlin Rohl said about Everton team-mate Tyrique George?

Goodison News has previously wrote how George could get the most out of Everton team-mate Tyler Dibling.

And it seems like plenty in the Everton squad are seeing lots that they like from George.

Rohl has been utilised at right-back and right wing-back in the early stages of pre-season as Everton continue to struggle for options in a real problem position.

As such, he has had to go up against George plenty in training, and has seen first hand how talented his team-mate can be.

Indeed, Rohl said he has had to say more than once: "Go easy, please."

In quotes reported by the Liverpool Echo, he said: "I think we all know about Tyrique’s capabilities in a one-on-one.

"I used to feel it a little bit more in training when I'm on right-back. I always tell him: ‘Go easy, please.’"

Everton fans will lick their lips at Merlin Rohl's words

It is really positive to hear about the impact George is making on his team-mates.

While his numbers were not particularly encouraging last term, a simple eye test told supporters how good the 20-year-old could be.

With his direct running and strength in one-on-one situations, George can be a real asset at Everton, and he has huge potential.

To hear his team-mates speak this way about him is particularly encouraging, because it shows he is motivated and ready to hit the ground running.

Obviously, supporters will want to see a bigger impact in terms of goals and assists, but you sense that will come in good time this season.
