Tom King has not had much impact at Everton but not many can claim to be a world record holder.

The Welshman's role at Hill Dickinson Stadium has been very much to add personality to the dressing room, as well as shore up the numbers between the sticks.

The goalkeeper is a popular figure in the squad, with Tom King's relationship with Jack Grealish often noted in the media.

While he has yet to feature for the Toffees, he does have a unique achievement.

As King holds the world record of the longest goal ever scored in the history of football.

His goal for Newport County back in 2021 was recognised at the time, but he now features in the coveted Guinness World Record book for 2027.

How long was Tom King's goal for Newport County?

Goalkeeper goals are a rare occurrence, but they often bring a lot of joy to those in the stadium.

However, unfortunately for King, he did not get to experience that potentially loud roar from Newport fans in 2021.

Due to the COVID restrictions at the time, football games across England were played behind closed doors.

So, when King netted from a record-breaking 96.01 metres from the opposition goal against Cheltenham, it was just his teammates and staff who celebrated with him.

Now, as shared by the print edition of the Daily Star, King's five-year old record is recognised once more in the official Guinness World Record book for 2027, which has already been released.

The outlet states it is "certain" that King will be sent a copy of the book to his house but that may come from his own family.

Everton's number three will put plenty of significance on the book, as back in 2021 in an interview with SoFoot, he stated: "It's pure coincidence, but every year my grandmother gives me the Guinness Book of Records.

"It's a family tradition, but honestly, I've never really opened it."

The Everton connection that remains in King's record

Interestingly, both King and the previous record holder have played for Everton, adding another point of intrigue to this story.

Asmir Begovic was the man who was knocked off his perch back in 2021, with his 91.9 metre effort coming up shorter than the Welshman's.

The former Everton goalkeeper still holds one record though, as that strike is also the quickest goal scored by a 'keeper at 13 seconds.

Like King, the Bosnian did not play much for the Toffees throughout his time in Merseyside.

Begovic ended his time at Everton with just 10 appearances across all competitions in a career which spanned three years during two separate spells.

After all, trying to overtake Jordan Pickford in the pecking order is a feat that many have failed to achieve over the years.
