David Moyes contract latest that could see Everton go down Sean Dyche route again

David Moyes' contract situation is one of the biggest talking points at Everton outside of transfers.

The Scotsman returned to Merseyside in January 2025, succeeding Sean Dyche in the dugout.

He has guided the Blues to two consecutive 13th-placed finishes, but they were actually just four points off a European spot last time out.

Moyes was understood to be relaxed about his contract, in an update shared by Guilia Bould in June.

However, the latest from The Athletic's Patrick Boyland on Tuesday has now compared it to Dyche's situation.

Speaking in an 'Ask Me Anything' on Reddit on 25 August, he said: “At one point it did seem to be trending towards him being offered a new deal.

“It’s since gone very quiet.

“I see some parallels with Dyche’s situation. He had one year left and TFG’s idea initially was for him to see that deal out. It’ll be on Moyes to convince them he’s worth a new deal...”

That suggests that a new deal is not necessarily on the cards for the 63-year-old, unless he earns it.

It is easy to see why some fans want him to be dismissed, and replaced with someone who is more brave from a tactical standpoint, and more exciting.

However, the grass is not always greener, and there are circumstances that led to the worse season last time out.

The lack of a proper right-back, something which has still not been sorted, and injury issues held his side back.

Now, they have better depth and they could still bring in a player in the problem position, he may well prove that he deserves a new deal.
