David Moyes told he will be Scotland manager - When he could actually leave Everton

David Moyes has been consistently linked with the Scotland job as he continues with Everton.

The Tartan Army returned to the biggest stage at the World Cup this summer in North America.

Unfortunately for Steve Clarke, it ended in disappointment with only one win from three and a group stage exit.

Clarke then resigned at Hampden Park, with Moyes now consistently linked with the role of his home nation.

After last season's disappointing end to the Premier League, Everton threw away European football when it was in their own hands.

And with a slow start to the transfer window, those links with Scotland are only going to grow with Moyes.

Goodison News has heavily covered the links between Moyes and Scotland over the past couple of months.

Despite that, he looks unlikely to jump ship at this stage.

Steven Naismith, former Everton star and current Scotland coach, believes that Moyes will manage his country.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Naismith just doesn't expect it to be now.

“David Moyes is one of the best Scottish managers that country has produced," he said.

“He’s in a brilliant job at the moment, it’s probably the perfect job. If I’m honest I think it is probably unlikely, because he’s gone into Everton at a time where they need a big rebuild.

"Before he retires, I’m pretty sure we’ll see him in the Scotland dugout."

When could David Moyes actually leave Everton?

The end of last season saw some real cracks appear between the Everton fanbase over Moyes' future.

Moyes' stubbornness to change from his favourites, no matter how they played really hurt the Toffees charge for Europe.

Jake O'Brien consistently being used at right-back, Tyler Dibling being left to rot on the bench when Dwight McNeil was starting every week are just two examples of that.

Of course, he hasn't been helped by Angus Kinnear and the Friedkins this summer over transfers.

If it gets too much from fans, or further transfers don't materialise, Moyes could happily pack his bags.

That isn't the man he is, though, and looking to put last season behind him and qualify for Europe this season is what it's all about.

After that, though, it's very possible that Moyes could move into international management with his country.

Much will also depend on what Scotland do next if it isn't Moyes.

If their next manager qualifies for the European Championships in 2028 with Scott McTominay and Co., there likely won't be another position to take for many years now.

Either way, Moyes looks destined for Scotland before he retires, but it may be years away.
